46th Annual Junior Youth, Team and Kata Judo National Tournament

Saturday Morning Opening Ceremony

City College of San Francisco hosted the event July 11-12, 2009. The event drew in 569 competitors from many countries and states including California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, Texas, Washington, and Dominican Republic. CENCO was well represented with 60 competitors. CENCO clubs also helped provide table staff for the shiai competitions for both days. CCSF judo team did a wonderful job with organizing and hosting the 2 day event. Thank you to all the individuals who helped make the event such a huge success.

Shiai competitions were held on Saturday and Sunday. Athletes ages 8-12 and 14-15 years old competed on Saturday and athletes ages 13-14 and 17-20 competed on Sunday. Kata competition was held early Sunday morning with 9 teams competing. Katas performed included Nage No Kata, Katame No Kata and Ju No Kata. The Team portion of the competition was held at the end of the event on Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to the Cenco boys team comprised of members from Cupertino, CCSF, San Jose Buddhist and Yosi Judo Club. The team was awarded second place in very tough team competition at the conclusion of the 2009 USJF Jr Nationals at CCSF. The team fought very hard in the gold medal match but were edge out 3-2 to Daiheigen in the very close finals.

This event marks the last national level competition for juniors that UJSF and USJA will host individually. Next year USJF and USJA will host the first combined competition in Irvine, CA.
